What Are the Building Regulations?
In short, the Building Regulations set the minimum standard for the design, construction and alterations of practically all buildings. Developed by the government, they set a national standard for all builders to follow. This ensures the creation of structures with optimal safety and energy efficiency.
In England, the current Building Regulations consist of 15 parts, from Part A to Part Q. These cover different aspects of building work. For example, Part A covers structure, Part B fire safety, Part P electrical Safety and Part Q security.
Naturally, the English Building Regulations pertain to the projects our builders undertake in locations like Melton Mowbray and Oakham.
The Building Regulations apply to, but aren’t limited to:
- Providing new services in a building, like bathroom installation, fuse box replacement and heating system upgrades
- Extending or altering an existing building (including replacement doors and windows)
- Certain changes of use for existing buildings
- Construction of a new building
- Any form of structural work
- All drainage services
The success of any construction relies on compliance with the Building Regulations from the outset. As your builder, we ensure your plans and designs will create compliant structures.
Whether in Melton Mowbray, Oakham or the neighbouring areas, your local authority performs checks on new building, extension or alteration work. Any non-compliant structures will not receive sign-off. In fact, it will need further investment for rectification work.
If you cut corners and think you have escaped the local authority’s attention, you still won’t have the necessary certificates for your house extensions, renovations or other building work. This represents a huge problem when the time comes to sell.
Who Is Responsible for Building Regulations Compliance?
Compliance with Building Regulations lies with the person, builder or company undertaking the work. Where applicable (i.e. if not the same person) the responsibility also extends to the property owner too.
As an experienced builder, we have countless compliant projects in our portfolio of completed work.
With Milton Construction on your side, you don’t have to worry about Building Regulation sign-off. Our workmanship in and around Melton Mowbray and Oakham always meets the required standards.
